TikTok link in bio requirements in 2026 and how to set up your page

A TikTok profile with a clickable website link opening a link-in-bio page

Who gets a clickable website link on TikTok, the business account shortcut, where the field hides in the app, and how to build a link-in-bio page that turns TikTok viewers into followers, subscribers and customers.

"Link in bio" is the most typed phrase in TikTok comments and, for a lot of accounts, the most frustrating one, because the bio does not have a link yet. TikTok hands out the clickable website field on its own terms, the terms have changed more than once, and the app hides the setting on mobile only. Here is where things stand in 2026, the fastest way to get the link, and what to put behind it once you have it.

The rules as they stand

  • Personal and creator accounts get the clickable website field at 1,000 followers. Below that, the field is either missing or shows the address as plain text that cannot be tapped.
  • Business accounts get the website field immediately, with any follower count, including a brand-new account. The trade-off is music. Business accounts use the Commercial Music Library rather than the full catalog of mainstream songs.
  • Bio text is never clickable. Typing an address into the bio itself gives readers something to copy, not something to tap.
  • The rules move. TikTok has loosened and tightened the threshold before, and rollouts differ by country and app version. The only reliable check is your own Edit profile screen.

Where the field is

  1. Open the TikTok app on your phone. The website field is not available in the desktop version.
  2. Tap Profile, then Edit profile.
  3. If your account qualifies, you will see a Website field under the bio. Paste your link-in-bio address and save.
  4. Open your profile as a visitor would and tap the link to confirm it works.

Switching to a business account

If you are under 1,000 followers and want the link now, switch. Go to Settings and privacy, then Account, then Switch to Business Account, and pick a category. The website field appears in Edit profile as soon as the switch completes. You can switch back later if the music restriction becomes a problem, and the link stays if you have crossed 1,000 followers by then.

Under 1,000 followers and staying personal

You can still send people somewhere. Put a short, typeable address in the bio text, such as biolink.page/yourname, and say it out loud in videos. Pin a comment with the address on videos that mention a product, since people copy from comments even though they cannot tap. Keep the address short enough to remember; the character counter helps you fit it into the 80 character bio with room for a line about what people will find there.

What to put behind the link

A TikTok visitor arrives from a 20 second video with one thing in mind, so the page should answer that first. A layout that works for most accounts on BioLink.page:

  1. The thing from your latest video as the top button. Update it the day the video goes up.
  2. Your latest TikTok embedded with the TikTok video block, which is on the free plan, so new visitors see what you do without leaving the page.
  3. Where else to find you. Buttons for YouTube, Spotify or Instagram. Make each one a short link with app linking switched on, so the tap opens the YouTube or Spotify app instead of TikTok's built-in browser.
  4. Something to buy or sign up for. A shop button, or on the Starter plan a sign-up form or a PayPal button.
  5. A way to get in touch for brand and collaboration requests.

Four to six blocks is plenty. The free plan allows 15 blocks and five pages, without ads. Registration takes a minute, and the overview in what is BioLink.page covers the blocks in more detail.

Make the link work harder

  • App linking. TikTok opens links in its own browser, where visitors are logged out of everything. A short link with "auto open app on mobile" hands them to the YouTube, Spotify, Amazon or Instagram app, signed in.
  • One short link per video. When a video mentions a product, make a short link just for it and put it on the page for a week. The click count tells you what that video was worth.
  • UTM tags. If a button leads to your own store, build the address with the UTM link generator using utm_source=tiktok so the sales show up under TikTok in your analytics.
  • Test it from TikTok. Tap the link from your own profile on an iPhone and an Android phone, not from a browser. The URL redirect checker shows what each short link does from a desktop.
  • Read the referrers. The statistics show how many visitors came from TikTok versus Instagram, which is the number to watch when you decide where to post more.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a link with zero followers?

Yes, with a business account. Personal accounts need 1,000 followers.

My account qualifies but the link is not clickable. Why?

Check that you added it in the Website field rather than the bio text, update the app, and log out and back in. Some regions and app versions receive features later than others.

Does adding a link reduce reach?

There is no evidence that a profile link affects distribution. Videos that say "link in bio" in the first second sometimes underperform because viewers scroll, so put the value first and the pointer at the end.

Should I change the link for every video?

No. Keep the profile link fixed and change the top button on the page. Editing the profile link means old videos point at the wrong thing.

Is a link-in-bio page better than the TikTok Shop link?

They do different jobs. TikTok Shop sells inside TikTok. A page collects everything else, your other platforms, your email list, your bookings, and it belongs to you rather than to the app.

Final checks

  • The address is in the Website field, not only in the bio text.
  • The top button on the page matches your newest video.
  • Buttons to other apps use short links with app linking on.
  • Your store buttons carry UTM tags with utm_source=tiktok.
  • You tapped the link from TikTok on both iOS and Android.
