A TikTok profile with a clickable website link opening a link-in-bio page

Who can add a website link on TikTok as of September 2026, why the option may be missing, where to add it in the app, and how to build a link-in-bio page for visitors from your profile.

Many TikTok accounts want to say "link in bio" before the profile can show a clickable link. TikTok decides who gets the website link, the requirements have changed over time, and the option is set up in the mobile app. This guide covers the requirements TikTok lists as of September 2026, where the option appears, and what to put behind the link once you have it.

What TikTok requires

TikTok's help page on adding a website link to your profile says you can add a website link if you have at least 1,000 followers, or if you have a Verified Business Account. We last checked that page on September 28, 2026.

  • At least 1,000 followers. This is the route for most personal and creator accounts. Below it, the link option does not appear.
  • A Verified Business Account. Switching your account type to Business is not the same as having a verified business account, and switching alone does not guarantee that the link option appears. Business accounts also use the Commercial Music Library rather than the full music catalog.
  • Bio text is not clickable. An address typed into the bio itself gives readers something to copy, not something to tap.
  • Availability varies. Features can reach countries and app versions at different times, so the Edit profile screen in your own app is the final check.

Where to add the link

  1. Open the TikTok app on your phone. TikTok's help page describes these steps in the app.
  2. Tap Profile at the bottom, then Edit profile.
  3. If your account qualifies, tap Add next to Links and follow the steps to add your website. Paste your link-in-bio address.
  4. Open your profile as a visitor would and tap the link to confirm it works.

What about switching to a business account?

A Business Account changes your music options and profile tools, but TikTok's help page names a Verified Business Account, not every business account, as the route to a website link without 1,000 followers. If you run a registered business, check TikTok's business settings for a verification option and what it asks for in your country. Switching account types only for the link is a gamble, because the option may still not appear.

Under 1,000 followers and staying personal

You can still send people somewhere. Put a short, typeable address in the bio text, such as biolink.page/yourname, and say it out loud in videos. Pin a comment with the address on videos that mention a product, since people copy from comments even though they cannot tap. Keep the address short enough to remember; the character counter helps you fit it into the 80-character bio with room for a line about what people will find there.

What to put behind the link

A TikTok visitor arrives from a 20-second video with one thing in mind, so the page should answer that first. A layout that works for most accounts on BioLink.page:

  1. The thing from your latest video as the top button. Update it the day the video goes up.
  2. Your latest TikTok embedded with the TikTok video block, which is on the free plan, so new visitors see what you do without leaving the page.
  3. Where else to find you. Buttons for YouTube, Spotify or Instagram. A short link with app linking switched on can open the YouTube or Spotify app on the visitor's phone, although TikTok's in-app browser may first ask visitors to open the page in their phone's browser.
  4. Something to buy or sign up for. A shop button, or on the Starter plan a sign-up form or a PayPal button.
  5. A way to get in touch for brand and collaboration requests.

Four to six blocks is plenty. The free plan allows 15 blocks and five pages, without ads. Registration takes a minute, and the overview in what is BioLink.page covers the blocks in more detail.

Make the link work harder

  • App linking. TikTok opens profile links in its in-app browser, and its help page says it limits how people browse chains of external links there, so some visitors are asked to open the page in their phone's browser. A short link with app linking switched on can then open supported apps such as YouTube, Spotify or Amazon. Whether the app opens depends on the device and the app's settings.
  • One short link per video. When a video mentions a product, make a short link just for it and put it on the page for a week. The click count shows how many people followed the link from that video.
  • UTM tags. If a button leads to your own store and this page is shared only on TikTok, build the address with the UTM link generator using utm_source=tiktok so those visits show up under TikTok in your store's analytics. A click is not a sale, so check orders in your store's own reports.
  • Test it from TikTok. Tap the link from your own profile on an iPhone and an Android phone, not from a browser. The URL redirect checker shows what each short link does from a desktop.
  • Read the referrers. The statistics show referrers when the app passes them along. In-app browsers do not always do that, so a separate short link for each profile is the more reliable way to compare TikTok with Instagram.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a link with fewer than 1,000 followers?

TikTok's help page lists a Verified Business Account as the other route. A regular business account is not a guaranteed shortcut, so check the current requirements in your country before you change your account type.

My account qualifies but the link is not clickable. Why?

Check that you added it under Links in Edit profile rather than in the bio text, update the app, and log out and back in. Some regions and app versions receive features later than others.

Does adding a link reduce reach?

There is no evidence that a profile link affects distribution. Videos that say "link in bio" in the first second sometimes underperform because viewers scroll, so put the value first and the pointer at the end.

Should I change the link for every video?

No. Keep the profile link fixed and change the top button on the page. Editing the profile link means old videos point at the wrong thing.

Is a link-in-bio page better than the TikTok Shop link?

They do different jobs. TikTok Shop sells inside TikTok. A page collects everything else, your other platforms, your email list, your bookings, and it belongs to you rather than to the app.

Final checks

  • The address is under Links in Edit profile, not only in the bio text.
  • The top button on the page matches your newest video.
  • Buttons to other apps use short links with app linking on.
  • If the page is shared only on TikTok, store buttons carry utm_source=tiktok.
  • You tapped the link from TikTok on both iOS and Android.
