A bio that gets clicks tells a new visitor what you post, why they should care and exactly what the link is for. On Instagram you have up to 150 characters to do that, according to Instagram's Help Center. TikTok's bio is a short text field too. Below are Instagram bio ideas and TikTok bio ideas for US creators, grouped by niche, plus the small changes that make people tap the link.
Every example is a template. Swap in your own niche, posting schedule and offer. If a line could describe hundreds of other profiles, it's too generic.
What makes a creator bio get clicks?
A useful creator bio usually does three things.
- They name the content. "Weeknight dinners under 30 minutes" beats "Food lover."
- They give a reason to follow, such as a schedule ("new video every Tuesday"), a result or a point of view.
- They say what the link is. "Free meal plan below" gives visitors a clearer reason to tap than "Links below."
Credentials help when they're real and relevant. "Certified personal trainer" or "ER nurse" earns trust in a niche where advice matters. Leave them out if they don't add anything for the viewer.
Instagram bio ideas for creators
Food and recipes
- "Weeknight dinners in 30 minutes or less 🍝 New recipe every Sunday. Grab the free grocery list below"
- "Texas BBQ, low and slow. Rubs, recipes and pit tips. Shop my BBQ rub below"
Fitness and wellness
- "Certified personal trainer helping busy parents train at home. 20-minute workouts, no gym. Free 4-week plan below"
- "Training for my first marathon, starting from scratch. Training log below"
Beauty and fashion
- "Drugstore makeup that looks expensive 💄 Honest reviews only. Everything I use is linked below"
- "Thrifted outfits under $50. Try-ons every Friday. Shop my finds below"
Business and money
- "Etsy seller sharing what actually sells. $0 to full-time in 2 years. Free listing checklist below"
- "Freelance designer. Portfolio tips and client scripts. Book a portfolio review below"
Only include credentials, results, posting schedules and free offers that are accurate and that you can actually deliver. A number like "$0 to full-time" needs to be true and something you can back up.
If you earn commissions from affiliate links or get paid or gifted products by brands, the FTC expects you to disclose that clearly where you recommend the product. A line in your bio or a link in bio page doesn't replace that. See the FTC's Endorsement Guides, What People Are Asking.
TikTok bio ideas for creators
TikTok bios are read fast, often right after a video, so keep them shorter than your Instagram bio and lead with the niche.
- "Teaching guitar in 60 seconds 🎸 Beginner songs daily"
- "Small-batch candle maker. Behind the scenes of my shop"
- "Nurse explaining medical stuff in plain English. Not medical advice"
- "Budget travel across the US national parks. Trip guides at the link below"
- "Books that keep you up at night 📚 One review a day"
Only use link calls to action like the last one once your TikTok account has a clickable website link. That link isn't open to every account. TikTok's help pages say you need at least 1,000 followers for a personal account, or a Verified Business Account, which is not the same as switching to a business account. Until you qualify, you can type a short address into the bio text, such as biolink.page/yourname. It won't be tappable, so viewers have to type it. Our guide to TikTok link in bio requirements covers the details.
How to write the link line
The last line of your bio makes the next step clear. A few patterns work well.
- Name the freebie, as in "Free 7-day meal plan below."
- Name the newest thing, as in "This week's video is linked below."
- Name the action, as in "Book a call below" or "Shop my picks below."
Then make sure the link delivers it. If the bio promises a meal plan, the meal plan should be the first button on your link in bio page, not the fifth.
Should you use one link or a link in bio page?
Instagram lets you add up to five website links to your profile, or up to 20 with a paid Meta One subscription, and TikTok gives eligible accounts one website link. If you only promote one thing, link straight to it. Most creators juggle more, such as a latest video, a shop, a newsletter, brand-partner codes and a booking page.
A link in bio page puts all of that behind one address you can use on both apps. On BioLink.page's free plan you get 5 pages with no ads, and you can add buttons, a YouTube or TikTok video, social icons and more. You can also see 30 days of click statistics on the free plan, and change where a button points without touching your bio. Free pages keep a small BioLink.page badge. Starter removes it for $1 a month.
Bio mistakes that cost creators clicks
- A bio about you instead of the viewer. "Just a girl who loves coffee" doesn't tell anyone what they'll get from following.
- A vague link line like "Links below" or "Check it out."
- An out-of-date first link, such as a sold-out drop or an expired code.
- Too many emojis and line breaks, which push the important line out of view.
- Different links on Instagram and TikTok that you forget to update.
Frequently asked questions
How long can an Instagram bio be?
Up to 150 characters, according to Instagram's Help Center.
Can I put a link in my TikTok bio?
You can add a clickable website link if your account has at least 1,000 followers or is a Verified Business Account. Otherwise, type a short address into your bio text.
Should my Instagram and TikTok bios be the same?
Keep your niche and core message consistent so people recognize you, but write each bio for how people use that app. You can use the same link in bio page on both, or separate tracked links if you want to see which app sends more visitors.
Are URLs in my TikTok bio text clickable?
No. Only the website link added in TikTok's Links section is tappable, and that needs 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account.
How can I track clicks from my Instagram and TikTok bios?
Use a short link or link in bio page with click statistics. To compare the two apps, give each its own short link.
How often should I change my bio?
Update the link line whenever your main offer changes. Revisit the whole bio when your content shifts.
Do hashtags in a bio help?
A branded hashtag can help fans find a campaign or your community posts, but a string of hashtags crowds out your message.
